Brant Lake and Breaking Fog Brant Lake in the Adirondacks is kind of an anomaly. It is one of those locations where fog easily settles in and will hover around for quite awhile in the morning before breaking up. One of the factors for the fog, is that the lake is open towards the west but is surrounded by mountains in all the other directions. Weather fronts mosey on in at night in conjunction with dropping temperatures and the fronts get hung up on the mountains (to some degree) and the fog just forms and sits. Of course this is a very unscientific explanation but it's my best guess after years of observation. This shot was taken as the fog was breaking up one morning. I metered the fog and overexposed in half stop brackets which led to a variety of moods created by the various exposures. |
