Lake Champlain

Lake Champlain is a long meandering lake that sits on the New York/Vermont border and also briefly dips into Canada. On the southern end, it is long, twisty and skinny, giving the photographer opportunities to use the land as a subject as well.  This image was taken from the top of Mount Defiance that overlooks the north and south ends of the lake.  Mount Defiance was a critical lookout point in both the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War.  From this points, soldiers could spot enemy ships coming from either direction.  It was also used to see activity on the northern end of Lake George (which flows into Lake Champlain).  The mountains in the background are the Green Mountains of Vermont.
