Late afternoon light has to duck into clouds or just starting to dart through to make the best use of it or can too harsh quickly.  At that angle in the day, the sun can blow out lots of highlights rendering the scene unacceptable to shoot in.

My biggest issue in taking this shot was making sure the roof on the gazebo didn't blow out.  Which was exactly what I had to battle with.
