Wood Frog

While coming back from a long hike, I happened upon this little guy crossing the trail.  It hopped about two hops off the trail and then just sat there trying to blend in with the environment. Slowly, I dropped my camera bag, took out my tripod, camera and 100mm macro lens and carefully worked my in to take this picture.

When shooting frogs, it usually is a slow progression to get in close.  I started back a bit further than this and slowly slid the tripod along the forest floor closer to this subject until I was able to get the composition I wanted.  I was able to work this subject for about 10-15 minutes before it hopped away.

Wood Frogs are one of those frogs that doesn't need to be around water in order to survive and this guy was certainly far away from any water source that I was aware of in the area.
